ACIDUM SULPHURICUM (Mother Solution)

It is prepared from the pure sulphuric acid, which is a colourless heavy caustic and corrosive liquid of oily consistency. It is obtained by the oxidation of sulphur or sulphur dioxide in the presence of water. The basic raw material should contain not less than 95.0 per cent w/wof sulphuric acid.

It is covered by both Homeopathic Pharmacopoiea of India and German Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia. It was proved by Hahnemann.

It was a favourite remedy of the Middle Ages, being used extensively in dilution in the treatment of scrofulous, phagedenic, cancerous and venereal ulcers, as a gargle and mouth-wash for aphthae, ulceration of the gums and diphtheria. Homeopathically it is indicated in cases characterized by great debility. Reports suggest it useful in aphthous ulcer, bleeding gums, offensive breath, gastralgia with contractive pain, flatulence, loss of appetite, hearty burn, sour eructations and vomiting, purpura haemorrhagia, etc. Literature suggests its successful use in craving for liquor.

RECOMMENDED DOSE: 0/1x in drop doses, well diluted. 2nd and 3rd potency. Boericke recommends sulphuric acid mixed with three parts of alcohol, five to fifteen drops three times daily for several weeks, has been successfully used to subdue the craving for liquor.

STORAGE: Further potencies prepared in purified water should be freshly prepared and all preparations of this acid should be kept in ground stoppered vials.
